Gudrun Aspelund, MD, MSc, Chief Epidemiologist at the Centre for Health Security and Communicable Disease Control at the Directorate of Health in Iceland. Education includes a doctor of medicine from the University of Iceland, a research fellowship, and a general surgical residency from Yale University, Connecticut, USA. Fellowship in pediatric surgery from Toronto University/Hospital for Sick Children in Canada, and a master of science degree in biostatistics from Columbia University, New York. Clinical career as an assistant professor and pediatric surgeon at Columbia University/Morgan Stanley Children´s Hospital in Manhattan 2007-2017 with additional experience as Chief of Section of pediatric surgery at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York 2017-2018. Joined the Directorate of Health in Iceland in 2019 and became the Chief Epidemiologist in 2022.
