Biography:
Michael Goodman, MD, MPH, is Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. He is an epidemiologist and a licensed physician with board-certification in Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine. In addition to his work as an epidemiologist, Dr. Goodman has nearly 20 years of experience as a practicing physician both in his native Lithuania and in the United States.
Education:
Dr. Goodman received his MD degree from the Kaunas Medical Academy in 1984 and his MPH degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in 1995.
Research:
Dr. Goodman's current research interests include cancer epidemiology with specific focus on the roles of sex hormones as determinants of cancer risk in transgender people. He is also leading an on-going research project evaluating cancer risk in persons with differences of sex development (intersex). Prior to his current work with gender minority populations, Dr. Goodman has conducted several studies of diet, inflammation and oxidative stress as determinants of colorectal and prostate cancer risk and prognosis. Dr. Goodman has experience in all aspects of epidemiologic research including design, implementation, and data analysis of both observational and experimental studies.
