Dr. Atsushi Okada, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nephro-urology at Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Japan.
He specializes in minimally invasive urologic surgery and kidney stone disease, with clinical expertise in robot-assisted surgery, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), ureteroscopy (URS), and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL).
Dr. Okada has a strong background in basic research on kidney stone pathogenesis. He has established experimental models of nephrolithiasis and demonstrated the important roles of osteopontin and anti-inflammatory macrophages in crystal formation and clearance. His current research focuses on risk stratification and molecular-targeted prevention strategies for kidney stone disease.
In addition to his clinical and research activities, Dr. Okada is actively engaged in surgical education. He has led nationwide initiatives to improve ESWL training and serves as a lecturer for the Japanese Urological Association’s official ESWL courses. He is also involved in the development of virtual reality simulators for robotic surgery. He has completed the “Surgeons as Educators” program and the “Foundation Course for Medical Education (FCME).”
Dr. Okada is an international member of the American Urological Association and an active member of several urological societies in Japan.
