AdCare Hospital Worcester, Massachusetts, United States
Session Description: This 90 minute presentation will introduce a mix of evidence-based and emerging best practices for strategies to improve clinicians self-care in response to overexposure of acute-care crisis interventions, traumatic experiences, and vicarious trauma.
Through a combination of didactic presentation and clinical testimonials participants will develop improved awareness of the clinical implications of fight, flight, or freeze response, while on the job and when not.
In addition participants will be apprised of how the complexities of COVID-19 has impacted healthcare, compounding traumatic exposures for clinicians in the field.
After this activity participants should be able to
Demonstrate examples of fight, flight, or freeze responses while working, and when not
Identify strategies empirically supported to improve clinician self-care best practices
Gain skills in mindfulness to reduce vicarious trauma through breathing techniques and body scanning
