This session will be a discussion about the recent history of fraud, waste and abuse in electrodiagnostics leading up to the drastic cuts in re-imbursement; efforts by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine to improve electrodiagnostic standardization and quality by offering electrodiagnostic lab accreditation; a discussion of the benefits and perspectives of accreditation from a private practice late career and academic early career perspective; and the future of electrodiagnostics in health policy.

Learning Objectives:

demonstrate knowledge of historical cases of fraud, waste and abuse in electrodiagnostics, cuts in re-imbursement and the subsequent unfortunate impact on physiatrists.
Demonstrate understanding of the importance and process of improving quality of electrodiagnostics through the AANEM lab accreditation.
