Abstract
Purpose: To describe the patients who have completed treatment and follow up with the Central Washington Cleft Lip and Palate Team, which serves 9 counties in rural Washington.
Methods: Cleft Lip and Palate Team records for patients who completed all team recommendations and procedures were reviewed. Patient sex, number of surgeries, type and location of cleft, patient age, and co-occurring conditions were collected and analyzed.
Results: Forty-six patient records were included in study. Patient composition was 33 males (71.7%) and 13 females (28.3%). Median age was 15.1. Patients were from 9 different counties and included 5 different races. Thirty-nine patients (81.2%) did not have other medical conditions and 3 patients (6.2%) had 2 or more conditions. Average number of surgeries was 3.6. Due to small sample size, no statistical significances exist.
Conclusion: The Central Washington Cleft Lip and Palate team has a unique patient composition and wide geographic boundaries. This study will provide a baseline for future research to assess team composition and outcomes and promote quality care for team patients.
