Purpose: The purpose was to explore if a child’s temperament and parenting style has an influence on the acceptance of dental treatment under oral sedation.
Methods: Prospective data was collected amongst preschool-aged and school-aged children that are patients of record, classified as American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) Classification I or II, that completed dental treatment under oral sedation at Geisinger Pediatric Dentistry. Data collected included patient’s temperament, specifically extraversion/surgency, negative affectivity, and effortful control, as well as parents’ reactions to child behavior.
Results: The results of this study are pending. Statistical analysis will include two sample t-tests for continuous variables and Chi-square tests for categorical variables.
