Endowed Professor of Surgery University of Minnesota Chanhassen, Minnesota
The speaker for this lecture recognizes failure in the surgical or medical management of elbow disease when speaking to an owner and informing them that their dog will likely develop progressive OA. Failure is confirmed when the animal owner is informed that medical treatments only help control the clinical symptoms, and that surgery for elbow OA, which the speaker does not recommend, comes with high risk and high cost. If the speaker continues to repeat historical surgical approaches, their experience can be defined as excellence in failure. In this lecture, attendees will discuss what can be learned from the past and how it might change the outcomes for these patients in the future.
