Disclosure: Nothing to disclose.
This plenary session will focus on single-topic anesthetic techniques and complications. While OMSs all employ pulse oximetry and capnography in their practices, what about awareness? Does Bispectral Index monitoring increase patient acceptance for office surgery? The most likely complications OMSs encounter focus on airway issues: the ability to maintain an airway, laryngospasm and OSA to name a few. These issues will be discussed. Perioperative pain control is crucial to successful surgery. Advances in local anesthesia and adjunctive medications also will be presented. In addition, the session will review how the addition of inhalation agents can help OMSs manage the pediatric patient.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Discuss the need for awareness monitoring in office anesthesia.
Cite updates on airway complications and management.
Identify how to speed onset and decrease pain during local anesthesia.
