Dr. Kotloff is Professor and Head of the Division of Infectious Disease and Tropical Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, at University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is also the Associate Director for Clinical Research at the University’s Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health. She is a member of the American Epidemiological Society and a fellow of the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Dr. Kotloff conducts research on the epidemiology of infectious diseases affecting children in the U.S. and in developing countries and has led numerous clinical trials to evaluate vaccines against a wide range of these infections. She has been Principal Investigator of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease-funded Vaccine Treatment and Evaluation Unit at University of Maryland since 2006. She has served as a lead investigator on numerous multicenter international trials including the Vaccine Impact on Diarrhea in Africa (VIDA) study, Global Enterics Multicenter Study (GEMS), Saving Lives with Azithromycin by Treating Pregnant Women and Infants (SANTE) study, Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS), Antibiotics for Children with Severe Diarrhea (ABCD) study, and the Pneumonia Etiology Research for Health (PERCH). Dr. Kotloff has published more than 250 articles and chapters and serves on numerous advisory committees.
