Dr. Franco-Paredes is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Center. He is an infectious diseases clinician with expertise in tropical medicine and neglected tropical diseases and vaccine-preventable diseases. He participated in the response to the SARS pandemic in Mexico and Latin America in 2003 and as consultant with the World Health Organization in developing the pandemic preparedness guidelines to respond to an influenza pandemic from 2006-2009. Dr. Franco-Paredes is currently the Program Director of the Infectious Diseases Training Program at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Center. He also has a particular interest in social justice, and health equity. He currently is also a co-director of the School of Medicine (SOM) class: Global Health and Underserved Populations, which is part of the new SOM curriculum. This class emphasizes the importance of structural determinants of health and methods to bring health equity trough structural interventions into the clinical encounter during clinical rotations among medical students. Dr. Franco-Paredes has 219 peer-reviewed publications and many of them related to the history of medicine (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=franco-paredes+c). Dr. Franco-Paredes collaborates with civil rights attorneys in the release of incarcerated individuals and detainees under ICE custody prior and during the COVID019 pandemic.
