Nick de Jonge (1988) is finishing the final year of his residency in hematology in the Amsterdam University Medical Center in The Netherlands. His PhD project focuses on antibiotic and antifungal treatment of infections in hematology patients. He coordinated a multicenter randomized clinical trial investigating short versus extended empirical treatment in fever of unknown origin during neutropenia. The results of this trial will be presented on the ID-week. Other projects include the diagnostic use of the inflammatory biomarkers procalcitonin, CRP and citrullin and 16S PCR (IS-PRO) in febrile neutropenia.
Nick de Jonge participates is member of the European Hematology Association acute myeloid leukemia scientific working group and is involved in writing a new guideline how to deal with drug-drug interactions between antifungal agents and new targeted therapies for acute myeloid leukemia. Furthermore he has worked in Stockholm at the Karolinska Institutet in the lab of Prof. Magnus Björkholm en Associate Professor Dawei Xu investigating telomere function during hypomethylating chemotherapy in AML en MDS patients.
