Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellow

Sarah M. Heston, MD, is a third-year fellow in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Duke University School of Medicine with a particular interest in serving immunocompromised children through clinical research. Her work is primarily focused on the ability of the gut microbiome to predict and prevent infections in pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients. Sarah is originally from Memphis, TN, where she attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and completed her pediatric residency at UTHSC/Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. She served as a Pediatric Chief Resident before moving to Durham, NC, for fellowship. During her infectious diseases training, she has focused on learning how to manage and prevent infections in immunocompromised children and how to conduct and lead effective clinical research in this area. She is completing a Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Research during her fellowship and has successfully acquired external grant funding to support her research efforts. She is excited to be presenting her work and is looking forward to attending IDWeek 2020.
