Dr. Robert Kirkcaldy, MD, MPH is the team leader for the Epidemiology Research Team, in the Epidemiology & Statistics Branch (ESB), Division of Sexually Transmitted Disease Prevention (DSTDP) at CDC. Dr. Kirkcaldy led CDC’s national surveillance of resistant gonorrhea for 8 years and led a clinical trial on new treatment options for gonorrhea. He’s published or has in press over 60 papers and book chapters on STDs, with a focus on gonorrhea antibiotic resistance. He has been involved in national and international public health preparedness and response planning for resistant gonorrhea. Dr. Kirkcaldy has also collaborated on studies of sexual transmission of other pathogens, such as Neisseria meningitidis and Shigella. Dr. Kirkcaldy completed his medical training and combined internal medicine/psychiatry residency at Tulane University, and his Master of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer, assigned to the Division of STD Prevention at CDC.
