National Clinical Pharmacy Program Manager for Infectious Diseases

Dr. Kelly Echevarria currently serves as the Veterans Health Administration’s National Clinical Pharmacy Program Manager for Infectious Diseases and Vaccines, Pharmacy Benefits Management. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapy with the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. In her VA role, she co-leads the National Antimicrobial Stewardship Task Force (ASTF), which is devoted to advancing the status of antimicrobial stewardship programs across more than 170 VHA facilities. Prior to this position, she worked for 17 years as an Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) in San Antonio, Texas, and as the Residency Program Director for the PGY-2 Infectious Diseases residency. Dr. Echevarria completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin, Doctor of Pharmacy at Creighton University, and her Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Specialty Residency training at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. She is Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS) with added qualifications in Infectious Diseases (AQ-ID) and is a Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist (BCIDP).
