Vice Chair
Cleveland Clinic Foundation
I have been a staff physician in Infectious Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland OH) since 1992, where I currently serve at Vice Chairman of ID. I have been involved in medical education at several levels for a number of years, having served as Program Director for the ID fellowship at Cleveland Clinic for 25 years, and have been an associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program as well. WIth respect to clinical reasoning in the field, have developed a clinical decision course for our ID fellows in the form of twice weekly Problem Based Learning sessions, which consist of hundreds of unknown cases for discussion, with their individual answers analyzed and scored. My interest in clinical reasoning has been in deliberate practice using PBLS, but also through medical simulation. I am originally from Buffalo NY, where I attended medical school at SUNY/Buffalo (class of 1986) and subsequently was a resident, chief resident, and then ID fellow at the Cleveland Clinic.
