Dr. George Miller was born and raised in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. He was educated at Columbia College and McGill University Medical School. He completed his internship and General Surgery Residency at NYU/Bellevue and 3 fellowships at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Surgical Oncology, Hepatobiliary Surgery, and Experimental Immunology. Dr. Miller has been on the faculty of NYU School of Medicine since 2007. He was named the HL Pachter Professor of Surgery and Cell Biology in 2017. Dr. Miller has served as the leader of NYU’s Tumor Immunology Program, helping the Perlmutter Cancer Center achieve Comprehensive NCI designation, co-leader of the GI Disease Management Group, and director of an NCI Training grant in Gastrointestinal Oncology. He has an active hepatolbiliary surgery practice at Bellevue and NYU and has been principal investigator in a leading cancer research laboratory. His lab has been awarded more than a dozen grants from the NIH and Department of Defense and he is the recipient of many prestigious awards from organizations such as the Society of University Surgeons, the American Liver Foundation, and the American Association for Cancer Research. His research has been published in leading journals including Nature and Cell and his work has been translated to 4 Phase I clinical trials. Dr. Miller has participated actively in training of residents, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students and he has mentored new surgical and research faculty. Dr. Miller was awarded the 2018 CTSI Mentor of the Year Award from NYU School of Medicine and was twice nominated for university-wide medal of excellence for teaching. Dr. Miller is a member of the American Surgical Association and the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
