Larry K. Kociolek, MD MSCI is an Attending Physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He joined the Lurie Children’s faculty in 2014 and is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Kociolek earned his medical degree in 2006 from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completed his residency and chief residency in pediatrics in 2010 at the University of Chicago. He completed his fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases in 2014 from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His research efforts are focused on the epidemiology and prevention of healthcare-associated and other high consequence infections in children, particularly C. difficile infection (CDI) and COVID-19. Dr. Kociolek is Principal Investigator of several NIH-funded translational research studies. He serves as a content expert on pediatric healthcare-associated infections for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and serves on the Pediatric Leadership Council for the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) whose goal is to lead national advocacy, research, and education efforts for prevention of healthcare-associated infections in children. Dr. Kociolek is one of the leaders of the COVID-19 response at Lurie Children’s and was recently recognized as a 2020 Healthcare Hero by Crain’s Chicago Business for his COVID-19 response efforts. He is an active participant in COVID-19 related education of healthcare providers and staff at Lurie Children’s, Chicago community pediatricians, and lay people through a variety of educational symposia and media outlets.
