Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Infectious Diseases

Dr. Samuel L. Aitken, PharmD, MPH, BCIDP is a Clincal Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Diseases and Program Director for the PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is also a faculty member at the Center for Antimicrobial Resistance and Microbial Genomics (CARMiG) at the UTHealth McGovern Medical School. His research focuses on the characterization of multidrug resistant infections in patients with cancer, particularly those with leukemia, incorporating whole-genome sequencing and clinical data to understand both the scope and impact of resistance in this vulnerable population. Additionally, he served as the founding chair of the Antimicrobial Stewardship in Cancer Consortium (ASCC), a multidisciplinary group aimed at improving the science and practice of antimicrobial stewardship in patients with cancer.
