Welcoming our newest Design Engineer, Ciara Weldon, to the team!! Ciara brings exciting new skills to the group with her background in intellectual property and development of new medical products. Ciara has wasted no time in making an impact, having filed a new patent application in her first few weeks at the company!! Ciara was a founding member of the Women in STEM society during her college years. She is also a national champion rower and recently qualified to compete at the European Championships - more reasons to celebrate her diverse skills. 🎉

Wow!! The Oncology Nursing Society Congress has delivered once again, with a massive celebration highlighting the amazing work being done by this organization and its members to deliver the highest standards in cancer care. ONS 2024 presented a powerful opportunity for the Gasgon Medical team to listen and learn about the challenges that still exist by the bedside, particularly those due to managing air-in-line during IV infusion of hazardous drugs. Our team was blown away by the response to our closed-system air-in-line solution, AirVault®, from nurses representing hospitals and healthcare systems all across the USA. Front line healthcare workers place themselves in harm's way every day due to occupational exposure to hazardous drugs that can be devastating to health. It's clear that healthcare providers need to do more to protect nurses and their colleagues, with engineering controls that are fit for purpose. This need for better controls to improve safety is highlighted in the new Oncology Nursing Society standards and was discussed during an excellent talk titled 'Hazardous Drug Administration - From Start to Finish' by MiKaela Olsen, DNP, APRN-CNS, AOCNS, FAAN and AnnMarie Walton, PhD, MPH, RN, OCN, CHES, FAAN. Yet despite a call for improving standards the reality of daily nursing does not always allow optimal safety targets to be met, making nurses the first and last line of defense for patient safety, and regularly at their own risk. We believe that improving safety in healthcare means using tools that are fit for purpose and safety discussions should include all stakeholders, especially nurses at the bedside. This week Gasgon Medical welcomed our European 🇪🇺 project partners to Cork, Ireland 🇮🇪. The SAFE-Infusion project group, with partners representing Spain, Portugal, Ireland and Sweden, is developing and trialing new technology to advance the world of IV infusion.   As well as progressing the project goals and strengthening our partnership, the project group found time to experience some Irish culture ahead of this St. Patrick’s weekend ☘️.   Many thanks to European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) for supporting this project, and to our collaboration partners, including representatives of Gasgon Medical, Tada Group AB ,Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Deu and Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC), especially those who traveled to Cork for this meeting;   Rebecca Stjernberg Bejhed, Darragh Bermingham, António Marques, Cármen Nogueira, Ramon Mir Abellan, Íñigo Chivite Araiz, Clara Szymanski, M CARMEN SANCHEZ MONJE, Michiko Ishiguro, Dan Stapleton, Seb Clerkin PhD RAC(EU), Alice O’Brien and Vincent Forde.

Our CEO, Vincent Forde, was in Chicago recently to meet with an Tánaiste, Micheál Martin, to brief him on the progress of Gasgon Medical entering the US market. This round table discussion, supported by Enterprise Ireland and the amazing Enterprise Ireland USA team, including Kevin Byrne of the Consulate General of Ireland, Chicago, dived into the minister's groundwork on supporting Irish innovation, the strong economic relationship between Ireland the USA, and the strategic aims of Gasgon Medical. Being in the 'Windy City', the discussion focused on the US Midwest and opportunities within the region. During a following luncheon hosted by City Club of Chicago the Tánaiste found time to mention AirVault® among his informative discussion on political challenges and economic opportunities of the day. Our team were delighted to present AirVault® at the Infusion Nurses Society Oregon - Lower Columbia Chapter spring conference, which took place in Portland, OR this week. As part of a stimulating educational agenda, Gasgon Medical's nurse expert, Nancy Trick, engaged the room with a 1-hour talk on Air-in-Line, investigating current challenges and workarounds that nurses must use to keep their infusions flowing safely and on schedule. This was a fun show, and a great opportunity to learn while delving into the new INS Standards and connecting with many nurses at our exhibition stand. Our sincere thanks to Alicia Dickenson BSN, RN, CRNI, VA-BC and the Infusion Nurses of Oregon team for inviting us.
