With thousands of frame styles and brands, choosing a frame often appears to amount to trial and error or patient/family preference. Rather than taking a back seat, opticians should move forward and master how to fit, create and customize a bespoke frame for a wearer’s needs. No longer a descriptor to be looked down upon, becoming a skilled and trusted frame “stylist” should now become THE essential soft skill of every optician.
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Recall the history of frame and sunglass design and materials, along with a review of the datum-fitting and boxing-layout system
Recognize why designing, customizing or simply choosing a made to order frame is an important but often overlooked skill, but one that is absolutely essential in a 21st Century optician’s toolbox
Investigate the important differences between acting as a frame decorator, a frame designer and a frame stylist or architect
