With consumers increasingly asking for their PD and prescription, eye care professionals are facing a challenge to their bottom line. Refusing to give out a patient's PD has always been inconsistent with both the spirit and intent of Eyeglasses I. But beyond the regulatory politics, ECPs should fully understand the main measuring modalities for determining a PDs, and why an accurate binocular PD may just be more important than a monocular PD.
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Interpret the legislative and political history of federal trade regulation of eyewear products
Explore the new marketing dynamics being created by the consumer's desire for freedom to choose where their prescription eyeglasses are made, and how regulators are using evidence-based risk assessment to create a more contemporary rand flexible regulatory structure while still protecting the public's health
Investigate the science, metrics and statistical validity of the current, established methods used to measure PD
