This course is designed to introduce amniotic membranes as a treatment option for a variety of anterior segment conditions and diseases. We will explore the history of amniotic membrane use and then delve into their current applications of them in everyday optometric practice. The attendee will learn about the details of processing and procurement, mechanisms of action and different types of amniotic membranes, and how to bill and code to obtain appropriate reimbursement.
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Understand the history of amniotic membrane use in clinical practice
Learn about the variety of mechanisms of action of amniotic membranes
Differentiate between the different types of amniotic membranes and understand the advantages and disadvantages of each
Gain knowledge about the procurement and processing protocol of amniotic membranes.
Identify the multiple uses of amniotic membranes in everyday practice
Learn how to insert and remove each type of amniotic membrane
