This course considers the impact of common sleep disorders on both ocular and systemic diseases. Strategies for diagnosis and treatment will be presented that can immediately be implemented in eye care practices.
Learning Objectives:
Upon conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to:
Differentiate and describe major sleep disorders encountered in clinical practice, including dyssomnias and parasomnias
Describe the evidence-based link between various sleep disorders and systemic conditions like cardiovascular disease, obesity, gut dysbiosis, insulin resistance/type 2 diabetes, as well as ocular conditions like AMD, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, ocular surface disease, and even myopia
List and describe strategies for diagnosing and treating sleep disorders, including in-office tests that may be readily performed by eycare professionals
