Mellanie True Hills, CSP is an afib patient, non-profit CEO, internationally-known author and speaker, and passionate patient advocate. She is the founder/CEO of the American Foundation for Women’s Health and StopAfib.org, a global afib patient advocacy organization that provides educational resources, convenes the annual Get in Rhythm, Stay in Rhythm® Atrial Fibrillation Patient Conference, partners in global awareness-raising coalitions, and co-chaired the Sign Against Stroke in AF Task Force. StopAfib.org is the top arrhythmia site worldwide, holds HON Code Certification from the Health on the Net Foundation, and has received numerous awards.
She was the first patient to participate in the AHA/ACC guidelines as a peer reviewer for the 2014 AHA/ACC/HRS Guidelines for the Management of Atrial Fibrillation and collaborated on the 2018 CHEST Guidelines on Antithrombotic Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation. In addition, she co-created MyAFibExperience.org with the American Heart Association and was a member of the NHLBI AF and EHRA Quality Indicators Working Groups. Her successes include creating and lobbying for the designation of National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month, testifying before the U.S. FDA, and convening the AF National Health Policy Roundtable in Washington, DC.
She is the author of three best-selling and multiple award-winning books and is one of only three non-profit CEOs worldwide to hold the highly-prestigious Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation from the National Speakers Association.
