Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute
As chief operating officer of the Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute, Gary Owens is instrumental in implementing the institute’s patient care and research strategy as well as developing new subspecialties that support growth and innovation. He also partners with the institute’s president to implement strategic and operational initiatives.
Gary’s healthcare experience spans 15 years and includes recent leadership positions as executive director of oncology and digestive health services for a multi-hospital healthcare system. Areas of responsibility have included ambulatory surgery and endoscopy, therapeutic endoscopy, radiation oncology, oncological partnerships, and organization & leadership development. A frequent speaker, his research interests include physician leadership, the business of endoscopy, empathy & character development, and authentic leadership.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in human services and counseling at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky, Gary earned a master’s degree in strategic leadership from the former Mountain State University in Beckley, West Virginia, and a Doctor of Education in leadership from the American College of Education. In addition to being a nationally Board Certified Executive Coach, he holds several professional certifications and credentials.
Active in multiple organizations, Gary is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Medical Group Management Association. He also serves on the board of directors for the Holocaust Memorial Resource & Education Center of Florida.
