Michael O’Connell, MHA, FACMPE, FACHE is Interim COO for RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group in West Orange, NJ with 12 acute care hospitals, 3 pediatric hospitals, 320 ambulatory sites, and 3,500 clinicians providing over 2 million ambulatory visits annually. As a c-suite leader, he has led high performing teams at two of the nation’s top 10 performers in the US News and World’s Report (Stanford Health Care and Cleveland Clinic) in hospital, ambulatory, medical foundation, service line, and medical group operations. In addition, he has directed an Accountable Care Organization and implemented initiatives for a Medicare Shared Savings Program. He is on the Board of Directors of the Medical Group Management Association, is past Chair of the American College of Medical Practice Executives Certification Commission and has served in various leadership roles with MGMA, coaching and mentoring medical practice leaders in support of their professional development. He is the Past President of the California Association of Healthcare Leaders, a chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, that supports healthcare leadership throughout 50 of California’s 58 counties. He is a published author on healthcare and leadership development and has presented numerous times on a diverse range of healthcare topics. He is board certified in medical practice management, a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives and board certified as a Health Executive and a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Michael has a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Illinois and a Master of Health Administration from St. Louis University.
