Enforcement agencies are not slowing down when it comes to investigations, settlements and legal actions relating to noncompliant coding and billing activities in medical practices. Through a case-study approach, this session will highlight recent enforcement actions and lessons that can be learned from a variety of coding and/or billing risk areas. When available, case studies will include court documents to shine a light on details not typically shared in enforcement press releases or newspaper articles. Topics will include medical necessity, coding modifiers, E/M services and "incident-to" scenarios.

Review recent coding and billing enforcement actions affecting medical practices.
Give examples from available court documents to better understand specific risks associated with coding and billing.
Discuss compliance strategies to help prevent coding and billing non-compliance.
