James Mooney is a native of Princeton, NJ but was born in London, UK moving between London, Hong Kong, and Singapore before coming to the US at 8 years old. He attended The Lawrenceville School in New Jersey where he played varsity baseball and soccer. He went on to Amherst College in Massachusetts where he was a 4 year starter and 2 year captain of the men’s soccer team and majored in neuroscience, graduating cum laude in 2012. While in medical school, he was involved in a number of research projects with the Temple and Jefferson neurosurgery departments and published research examining links between video gaming, athletics, musicality and surgical performance on the Da Vinci Surgical System. After residency, he will be completing a fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. His grandfather, Dr. James Mooney, was also a neurosurgeon and native of Princeton, NJ. His outside interests include running, soccer, playing the piano, snowboarding and wakeboarding.
