Heparin is the mainstay for intra-procedural anticoagulation in venous interventions. As interventional radiology cares for more complex patients, IRs need to familiarize themselves with anticoagulation alternatives, dosing and indications for use, when heparin is contraindicated. In this session, we use a case-based approach to discuss pre- and intra-procedural anticoagulation in complex venous interventions. We also discuss post-procedural anticoagulation, including data for oral agents (antiplatelet, DOACs and Coumadin) and recommended length of use.
