This session will examine the vascular biology of endovascular therapies and devices including vascular injury/remodeling following angioplasty, atherectomy, stenting and vessel modification. Attendees will gain greater insights into the mechanisms of these techniques and technologies to help inform treatment decisions for patients suffering from peripheral arterial disease.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the unique properties of nitinol for stent and vascular device construction, as well as its limitations leading to mechanical fatigue
Define the differences between vascular stents and their biomechanical properties
Describe the vascular biology of in-stent restenosis and the mechanisms of antiproliferative therapeutic devices such as drug-eluting balloons and stents
