2023 Global IR Juniors Summit

The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) RFS, British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR), Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE), European Trainee Forum and Pan-Arab Interventional Radiology Society (PAIRS) RFS Committee are working collaboratively to improve both access to IR globally as well as education and training. We encourage medical students to take on electives abroad. This effort is inspired by the understanding that we can strengthen IR by connecting local experiences and communicating across borders, both of which are currently being underutilized.

Access to interventional radiology (IR) services is extremely limited in less developed countries. The classic perception of IR is one of expensive, high-tech procedures. However, even the basic, inexpensive and life-saving procedures are not available to the majority of the world's population due to a lack of training and resources. Post-partum hemorrhage and sepsis from ​infected organs continue to be major causes of death in the developing world, and access to emergency drainage and embolization procedures is one part of a multidisciplinary solution. ​

Join us live at SIR 2023 for the Global IR Juniors Summit in person and virtual meeting. Interested participants who are not able to be onsite in Phoenix, will be able to live stream the event as well.   

Program objectives

Upon completion of this course, an attendee should be able to:
  • Understand what IR is and how they are presented around the world.
  • Get started in IR for your own career development. 
  • Learn about how to collaborate across specialties and borders.
