Tobias Schaeffter studied electrical engineering at TU-Berlin and did his PhD in magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) at University Bremen (Prof. Leibfritz). From 1996-2006, he worked as a Principal Scientist at the Philips Research Laboratories in Hamburg (Germany), where he was responsible for the development of quantitative and interventional MRI.
In April 2006, Tobias Schaeffter took up the post as the Philip Harris Professor of Imaging Sciences at King’s College London. A major aim of his research was the investigation of fast and quantitative MR-techniques for cardiovascular applications. Besides his research, he headed also the new department of Biomedical Engineering. Since 2015 Prof. Schaeffter heads the division of medical physics and metrological IT at Physikalische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Berlin. He is also a Professor of Biomedical Imaging at TU-Berlin and the Einstein Centre Digital Future. The results of his work have been published in over 250 peer-reviewed papers, 10 book chapters and 30 international patents.
