Dr. Barker, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Northwestern University researching the development of cardiovascular MRI techniques. His primary focus is on the development of translational MRI techniques to image valvular heart disease and cardiovascular hemodynamics. His work on bicuspid aortic valve, blood flow imaging and its possible connection to aortopathy development was cited by the editors of Circulation as among the “Most Read Papers on the Topic of Aortic Disease” and in Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging as among the “Most Important Articles in Cardiovascular Imaging Science”. Dr. Barker received his PhD from the University of Colorado, Boulder in Bioengineering and was a Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholar in Medical Physics at the University Hospital Freiburg in Germany. He has held an American Heart Association Scientist Development Grant Awardee and is a US National Institutes of Health K25 scholar. He currently serves as the Vice Chair of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance and Medicine Flow and Motion Quantitation Study Group.
