Dr. Vimal Raj is a cardiothoracic imaging specialist and currently heads the unit of Cardiac Imaging at Narayana Health City, Bangalore. This is a tertiary cardiac care centre which caters to a large population of India.
In his early career, he trained as a surgeon in Wales, United Kigdown prior to taking up Radiology as a speciality. He has trained and worked in some of the leading cardiothoracic centres in the UK, including Cambridge (Papworth Hospital), London (Royal Brompton Hospital) and Leicester (Glenfield Hospital).
He is an avid educator and has been running the only EACVI level 3 training program in India for many years. He has the distinction of publishing three textbooks on imaging, the latest of these was an exclusive book on Imaging of Congenital Heart Diseases.
He is a keen academician and has published more than 80 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
He holds a patent in catheter design for performing post-mortem CT coronary angiography.
The British and Karnataka state government have conferred multiple awards to him for his exemplary work in War Zone and during Natural Disaster.
