I am a clinical cardiologist at the University of Mississippi Medical Center with a focus on advanced cardiovascular imaging. I also have appointments in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics and Radiology. I serve as the Associate Director for Clinical Research for the Mississippi Center for Heart Research and I am Associate Program Director for our Cardiology Fellowship program. My primary research focus is on mechanisms of obesity-induced cardiac and renal dysfunction. I have ongoing projects using experimental animal models of cardiovascular/renal disease as well as clinical studies using novel magnetic resonance imaging techniques, echocardiography, and proteomic techniques in patients. I am also an investigator on the Jackson Heart Study with a focus on cardiovascular disease risk factors. I am active in clinical research and am actively recruiting for multiple clinical experimental studies including our studies on obesity-induced hypertension, post-myocardial infarction remodeling and CMR stress testing. I am also a co-investigator on a multi-center grant evaluating the cardiovascular effects of tobacco products.
I completed my cardiology fellowship training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and then an NIH-T32 training program in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging at Wake Forest under Dr. Greg Hundley. At the University of Mississippi Medical Center, we perform approximately 500 clinical CMRs per year including stress imaging and advanced congenital heart disease. Our CMR team is a collaborative effort between Cardiology and Radiology. I also have a general cardiology practice and attend on our inpatient cardiology and consult services. I also staff our cardiology noninvasive laboratory and read transthoracic echo, perform transesophageal echo, and interpret SPECT and coronary CT.
