Marcus Carlsson, MD, PhD, is a professor and senior consultant at Clinical Physiology, Karolinska Institute, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. He was trained at the University Hospital in Lund, today Skåne University Hospital, where he later led the department of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine. Further, he has been chairman of both the Swedish Heart Association and the Swedish Society of Clinical Physiology. He was a Clinical Investigator at National Heart Lung and Blood Institute 2021-2022 and continues to lead the group Clinical Physiology at NIH. This NHLBI group has a joint research collaboration with Medstar Washington Hospital Center. At Karolinska Institute he is the department head of Clinical Physioloy where the Karolinska Cardiac MR group operates. Dr Carlsson´s research interest is understanding cardiac pathophysiology using cardiac MRI and clinical implementation of novel MRI techniques. The patient groups where he performs research range from pediatric congenital heart disease, GUCH, ischemic cardiomyopathy, cardiomyopathies including cardiooncology and valvular heart disease. Cardiac MRI techniques of particular interest is flow imaging and 4D flow in particular as well as quantitative perfusion techniques.
