Dr. Thekla H. Oechtering, MD, is a radiologist and a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Liver Imaging Research Program of Scott Reeder. She studied Medicine in Luebeck, Germany, where she also completed her residency with Joerg Barkhausen. In Luebeck, she is heading the research group “cardiovascular MRI”. Her research focus lies in postsurgical aortic and portal hemodynamics, and validation of 4D Flow MRI. She has published >100 original articles and conference papers and is involved in the 2nd SCMR-endorsed consensus statement paper on 4D Flow MRI. She gives invited lectures at society meetings such as the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, and the Society for Magnetic Resonance Angiography.
She is a Junior Fellow of the ISMRM, Secretary of the Flow and Motion Study Group of ISMRM, and a member of the board of the Cardiovascular Study Group of the German Roentgen Society. She was awarded the Albers-Schoenberg Medal of the German Roentgen Society in recognition of her long-standing commitment to young radiologists and the establishment of the young radiologists' organization Young Radiology Forum. She received multiple national and international awards such as the Thesis Award of the German Roentgen Society and the Horst-Seils Award for outstanding research from the North German Society of Radiology.
