Every time I open the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns (B. Brackman) I am struck by the history of each quilt block and the shear volume of patterns presented so beautifully. So many blocks stand the test of time and appeal to me as both traditional and modern. Block #2223, "Dogwood Blossom", was published in the 1929 newspaper "Capper's Weekly", where politics, local and national news was shared, along with helpful patterns such as this one - in the midst of the depression! I have been drawn to this block over and over again for it's ability to stand on its own, singularly. Upon seeing the fabrics in the Ruby Bee Challenge, I knew it was time to finally leverage this pattern. I've updated the design with a bit of lightness and movement via floating diamonds that draw the eye into and out of the beautiful block #2223.
