Entitled “New Beginnings”, this total improv miniature quilt utilizes many of the shapes from Irene Roderick’s “Dancing with the Wall: Improv Quilting” as the inspiration. In 2022, I set out to move away from traditional quilting and more towards Improv quilting, which took a reset of the way I think about color, shapes, flow. Thus, this quilt is a “new beginning” for me, working mostly with very bright colors and just a few print fabrics to add depth and movement to the quilt. This piece is machine quilted with canary yellow thread in straight stitching which creates movement right in the middle and moving in a diagonal outward movement. I used facing of the quilt so I didn’t stop the movement of the quilt off of the edges.
