These patchwork rings weave together hand-dyed linen and a crisp, white background. Each ring uses multiple colors from the gradations to give them depth, contrasting with the few solid rings that are also mixed in for interest. I first discovered a version of this curvilinear pattern at the Şehzade Mosque, and later at the Süleymaniye Mosque, both in Istanbul. Both of these buildings were built by the famous Ottoman architect Sinan, to which the title of the work pays tribute. I finished the quilt with dense, straight-line quilting and a faced binding.
