I wanted to create a strong, angular, design but then play with the idea of blurring it with the use of layered color. A star pattern with a repeating diamond was a perfect fit. I like the trick of the eye or the need to squint in order to focus on the shapes. I almost feel like it's beckoning me to put on a pair of 3D glasses to have it pop out from the background tone. I used a quilting motif that I commonly go to, which I call brainy topography. I love the organic feeling it evokes, like the paths created by waterways or the vein structures inside our bodies. This motif comes naturally to me and I go into autopilot when stitching it.
