Further explorations of my Freehand Foundation Piecing technique. This piece began with class samples for a workshop I taught at QuiltCon Together and grew into a modern improvised version of a fancy New York Beauty quilt. I am interested in experimenting with negative and positive elements so chose to use black and white for the intricate piecing and applique sections with just one colour (though many different shades) for the background. Hand quilting details add further intricacy to the curves and pieced sections.
