Every single day, more than 100 people in the United States die from gun violence. Each of those lives is precious. In 2018, 39,740 people died from gun violence which works out to nearly 109 per day (UC Davis/CDC). Of those, each day, 66 deaths were from suicide (black), 38 were homicides (red) and 5 were from accidental or other causes (blue). We must address these Unnecessary Losses. We can approach the issue from multiple sides. Improving our mental health system, offering to hold onto a gun for someone who is struggling, more effective and better background checks, emphasis on keeping guns locked and away from children, and passing red flag laws are some options. Those with a history of violence or abuse must not be allowed to own guns. There is no simple solution. So much potential and creativity are lost with each life. Every life has value.
