To create this wholecloth quilt dye was applied in a spontaneous manner to a piece of cotton fabric. After being hand-painted on the fabric, the dye was carried through the fibers by water; directed by gravity and the wind. The process limited my control over the outcome and left many unintended marks. Once dyed, dense stitching was added in response to the colors and marks on the cloth. Geometric stripes, aided by digital technology, add a structured, geometric overlay; at times seamlessly integrating with the dyed cloth, other times only masking unwelcome marks. In both cases I found beauty and joy in the unexpected interactions between the base fabric and quilted lines.
