Have you ever felt the “ultimo” (Italian for last or least), the last one or one too many in a crowd of all “alike”? It can be daunting, frustrating and unsettling. The way to gracious inclusiveness is a long one. On a better note, “Ultimo” is special and unique, to be appreciated, treasured and accepted. I am always intrigued by the impact that black and white stripes have in a block or composition, the design that emerges is strong and unique. Setting it in red strengthens even the work. The asymmetric Log cabin block lent itself well to the play that the striped fabrics created. A border was created with half Courthouse Steps block in red to lighten the strong design and to be cohesive with the pattern of the Log Cabin.
