This quilt was started in a wonderful Blair Stocker Workshop. From what I have read, "Boro" is the Japanese tradition of extending the life of clothing and household items by patching and stitching. It is tradition because it is a belief, a way of life, a way of thinking. I wanted to make my version of a boro that reflected some of the techniques that I had seen in real boro items, the heavy stitching over stitching, the multiple patched areas, and the predominant colors of blue, beige and browns. I mixed new and old materials, a few pieces from the Moda Fabrics "Boro" line, a vintage sugar sack, odd pieces of homespun, some antique quilt blocks and pieces that I had collected over the years, and old flannel scraps on the back and in the binding. Many, many, many hours of loving stitches created this quilt! It's "My Boro".
