My grandmother suggested I learn to quilt during my summer visit to Texas. I had never even used a sewing machine or quilting tools, so I thought I'd just create a simple quilt. A jelly roll at JoAnn's caught my eye because it reminded me of the starry sky. My grandmother showed me a "wonky piecing" video and that's how I created my design. She demonstrated each step of the project but I completed all the design, piecing, and even quilting on the longarm by myself. The quilt turned out to be different than I expected, and it showed me that things don't have to go as planned, but they'll still turn out beautiful in the end, just like galaxies. That's how I named my quilt, with inspiration from my mom. And the quilt looks like a window open to the stars to me.
