This piece reflects upon my emotional landscape during the first year of the pandemic. I wanted to convey the different forces I experienced during Covid, surges and waves going in all directions, some that buried me and others that lifted me up. When the weight of it all eventually got on top of me, I realized I needed some help and I got it. In addition to an abstract energy or forcefield, these projections bring to mind microvilli, structures that increase the surface area of a cell. I certainly felt like my surface area increased that year, often feeling stretched, flat out, on edge, like my nerves had nerves. As a result I was more vulnerable to stress and irritation. This piece embodies the effort and energy it takes to care for oneself in trying times.
