Colours And Shapes Inspire Me... I recently fell upon a collection of vinyl rugs at a local store, which brought memories of black and white vinyl flooring from my childhood years. I was always very tempted to colour them … so I did. These motifs date back to Victorian era and were usually used to decorate lobbies and hallways. My design was inspired by one of these flooring tile motifs. I layered six colours, each in two values, over the black and white motif to create six bold and vibrant “X” shapes to highlight the primary element of design. I used Foundation Paper Piecing to aid with precision in my patchwork. Using my domestic sewing machine, I quilted lines that followed the patchwork and formed an off-centred “X” in top-left part of the quilt. Detail and texture was added through hand quilting. Finally, I finished the quilt with machine binding.
